STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥斞侵奚墒悠碘檚 Opera will bring a fresh take on a classic Christmas performance to the community this Tuesday [Nov. 15].
聽鈥淎mahl and the Night Visitors,鈥 an opera originally set in the time of Christ, will be performed in an adapted, modernized format at 7:30 p.m. at the Lecture-Recital Hall in the Music Building at 124 Hardy Road. The show will feature a student cast, chorus, dancers and orchestra and is free and open to the public.
The original 1951 opera, created by Italian composer Gian Carlo Menotti, follows the story of a boy with disabilities and his mother visited by three kings on their way to visit the Christ child in Bethlehem.
MSU Opera鈥檚 version of the show has been adapted to be told in a modern-day context by directors Roza Tulyaganova, assistant professor, and Jeanette Fontaine, associate professor. The MSU Department of Music faculty has collaborated with MSU鈥檚 T.K. Martin Center, Department of Communication, Golden Triangle Theatre and Starkville community members.
