STARKVILLE, Miss.—ÑÇÖÞÉ«°ÉÊÓƵ (all campuses) will close Thursday, April 18, at 12:30 p.m. due to an abundance of caution over predicted severe weather across the state today. The National Weather Service is predicting severe thunderstorms with potentially dangerous conditions for much of Mississippi. Driving conditions may become challenging or dangerous.
Classes for Thursday are canceled for all campuses as of 12:30 p.m. The university is scheduled to be closed Friday [April 19] for a holiday.
Student safety is always MSU’s top priority. Students are encouraged to make the best decisions when traveling to and from campus during bad weather. MSU encourages students not to attempt to do so if their safety is at risk. In some cases, remaining on campus rather than traveling may be the safest decision.
Requests for weather-related academic accommodations should be submitted to the Office of the Provost. Faculty, staff and students are urged to use caution to ensure personal safety. Essential personnel required to work during the closing will be notified by their supervisor.
Dining Services will operate on a normal schedule based on posted hours. The Sanderson Center will be open until 7 p.m. Mitchell Memorial Library will close Thursday at 12:30 p.m. and reopen at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 21. The Union will remain open until 10 p.m. The Student Health Center will remain open until 5 p.m.
Monitor local news outlets for changing conditions and advisories. Starkville Campus residence halls remain open.
