STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥斞侵奚墒悠 is once again a disc golf national champion.

The MSU men鈥檚 disc golf club dominated the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championship in North Augusta, South Carolina, winning the national title by 33 strokes against the field of 35 teams. Saturday鈥檚 [April 14] final round marked the second national championship for the club and the first since 2009. The MSU women鈥檚 disc golf club won national championships in 2012 and 2013.

鈥淭his is something this club has been working toward for a long time,鈥 said team captain and club president Steven Hillerman. 鈥淲e had a pretty good team last year and came in fifth place, so we were really hoping to do more this year. For us to come away with the title really means a lot.鈥

The Bulldogs shot 59 under par over the six-round tournament, putting them comfortably ahead of second place team Texas A&M, which finished at 26 under par for the tournament. The four-person group of Mississippians that won the title include, by hometown:

DIAMONDHEAD鈥擳revor Strong, a senior civil engineering major;

JACKSON鈥擬icah Peacock, a senior mechanical engineering major;

MADISON鈥擲teven Hillerman, a junior computer science major; and

SOUTHAVEN鈥擩acob Henson, a freshman finance major.

In addition to the four players on MSU鈥檚 primary squad, two other teams of four from MSU competed in the competition.

The MSU Disc Golf Club practices on the university鈥檚 two public disc golf courses, which are managed by the Department of University Recreation.
