STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥斞侵奚墒悠 students from Mississippi, Alabama, Alaska, Georgia, Louisiana, New Jersey, Tennessee and Texas are receiving 2016-17 building construction science scholarships.
Building construction science is a major academic offering of MSU鈥檚 College of Architecture, Art and Design. Also one of only two such studio-based programs in the U.S., its interdisciplinary curriculum in business, engineering and construction science prepares MSU graduates for careers in construction or construction-related fields.
This year鈥檚 group includes (by hometown):
BRANDON鈥擲enior Jackson Parker, receiving the Student of the Year Award for having his class鈥檚 highest 2015 fall-semester GPA. The son of Lloyd and Denise Parker and a Northwest Rankin High School graduate, he is a two-time recipient of the award.
COLUMBIA, Tennessee鈥擨ncoming freshman Victoria A. Thompson, receiving a $1,000 Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors Scholarship. She is the daughter of David Thompson and Julie Thompson and a Battle Ground Academy graduate.
DECATUR, Alabama鈥擨ncoming freshman Jalyn R. Wallin, receiving a $1,000 Mississippi Contractors Endowed Scholarship. She is the daughter of Richard and Lorraine Wallin and an Austin High School graduate.
FRANKLIN, Tennessee鈥擩unior Owen A. McVitty, receiving a $500 Brasfield and Gorrie Building Construction Science Scholarship. He is the son of Jim and Alicia McVitty and a Centennial High School graduate.
FULTON鈥擲enior Tanner C. Wallace, receiving a Student of the Year Award for having the highest fall-semester GPA in his class. The son of Ted and Carol Wallace, he is a two-time recipient of the award and an Itawamba County Agricultural High School/Itawamba Community College graduate.
GULFPORT鈥擨ncoming freshman Derricka E. S. S. Grayer, receiving a $10,000 Yates Construction Company Annual Scholarship. She is the daughter of Derrick and Gloria Grayer and a Gulfport High School graduate.
HUNTSVILLE, Alabama鈥擨ncoming freshman Samuel D. Akers, receiving a $1,000 Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors Scholarship. He is the son of Tony and Debbi Akers and a Buckhorn High School graduate.
KENNESAW, Georgia鈥擲ophomore John J. Rowan, receiving the Student of the Year Award for having the highest fall-semester GPA for his class. He is the son of Michael Rowan and a Mount Paran Christian School graduate.
KITTY LAKE, Alaska鈥擩unior Cora N. Howell, receiving a $1,500 Brislin Inc. Annual Scholarship. She is the homeschooled daughter of Jamie and Kecia Howell.
MEMPHIS, Tennessee鈥擩unior Jonathan L. 鈥淛on Luke鈥 Cave, the son of Richard and Rene Cave, an Evangelical Christian School graduate and the recipient of a $1,500 Brislin Inc. Annual Scholarship; and senior Webb Emerson, the son of Jeffrey and Sherry Emerson, a Christian Brothers High School graduate and recipient of the program鈥檚 top award, the Director鈥檚 Medallion.
Cave also is a two-time recipient of the Student of the Year Award for having the highest fall-semester GPA in his class.
MOORESTOWN, New Jersey鈥擨ncoming freshman Jeffrey F. Hubler, receiving a $750 Chip and Jennifer Crane Endowed Scholarship. He is the son of Wayne Hubler and Jacquelyn Ott and a Moorestown High School graduate.
SCOTTSBORO, Alabama鈥擩unior Benjamin J. 鈥淏en鈥 Chubb, receiving a $1,500 Brislin Inc. Annual Scholarship. The son of Marco Chubb, he is a Scottsboro High School graduate and two-time recipient of the scholarship.
SLIDELL, Louisiana鈥擩unior Regan E. Horn, receiving a $1,000 Abbey Burnett Bridges Endowed Scholarship. She is the daughter of Craig and Lisa Horn and a Northshore High School graduate.
SMYRNA, Tennessee鈥擨ncoming freshman Hunter E. Bullock, receiving a $1,000 Kline Mechanical Systems Annual Scholarship. He is the son of Scott and Shelley Bullock and a Stewarts Creek High School graduate.
VESTAVIA, Alabama鈥擨ncoming freshman William S. Brooks, receiving a $1,000 Mississippi Contractors Endowed Scholarship. He is the son of Todd Brooks and Rachel Brooks and a Vestavia Hills High School graduate.
WACO, Texas鈥擨ncoming freshman Christopher D. Sharp, receiving a $1,000 Mississippi Contractors Endowed Scholarship. He is the son of David and Jane Sharp and a Reicher Catholic High School graduate.
