MSU students, alumna take home five awards in statewide art competition

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擭early 50 works by 24 current 亚洲色吧视频 art majors and one alumna are on display through March 18 at The Arts Center of Mississippi in Jackson.

Now in its 66th year, the Mississippi Collegiate Arts exhibit is part of statewide juried competition for student artists enrolled in the state鈥檚 four-year colleges and universities. The annual event is designed to showcase the high quality of visual arts education taking place in Mississippi higher education.

This year鈥檚 contest drew more than 930 submissions from nearly a dozen institutions. Of that number, 46 entries by MSU art majors were among 138 judged worthy of inclusion in the exhibit.

Richard Doubleday, assistant professor in the graphic design program at Louisiana State University鈥檚 School of Art, was juror for the 2016 MCA competition. He selected five MSU student works for Juror鈥檚 Awards, one each in the Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, Graphic Design and Time Based Media categories.

BILOXI鈥擲enior Ian F. Green, concentrating in graphic design, who also received the Juror鈥檚 Award in Graphic Design for his work, 鈥淜enzo Tange.鈥

BRANDON鈥擲eniors Kierre Dawkins, concentrating in fine arts; and Anna R. Zollicoffer, concentrating in graphic design.

CLINTON鈥擩unior Brennan P. Crosby, concentrating in photography; and sophomore Carly A. Melton, undeclared concentration.

COLLIERVILLE, Tennessee鈥擲enior Jordan R. Hankinson, concentrating in graphic design.

FLORENCE, South Carolina鈥擲enior computer science major Candace B. Moreau.

FOXWORTH鈥擧aleigh E. Parker, a fall 2015 magna cum laude art/photography graduate.

JACKSON鈥擲enior Zachary S. 鈥淶ach鈥 Boozer. Concentrating in photography, he received the Juror鈥檚 Award in Time Based Media for his work, 鈥淕oshen.鈥

MADISON鈥擟oncentrating in graphic design and photography, sophomore Anna K. 鈥淜atie鈥 Erickson received the Juror鈥檚 Award in Painting for her work, 鈥淔ragile鈥; and seniors Nicolette L. 鈥淣iki鈥 Johnson, undeclared concentration; and Gerard Woods, concentrating in fine arts.

NEW ALBANY鈥擲enior Casey E. Jennings, concentrating in graphic design.

OCEAN SPRINGS鈥擲enior Jillian N. Wilson, concentrating in fine arts.

STARKVILLE鈥擩unior Kamau J. Bostic, concentrating in photography; and senior Jinwon Kim, an art/undeclared major. Also an architecture master鈥檚 and magna cum laude business administration/finance bachelor鈥檚 graduate, Kim received the Juror鈥檚 Award in Drawing for her work, 鈥淯ntitled 1.鈥

The Arts Center of Mississippi is located at 201 E. Pascagoula St. Viewing hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and noon-5 p.m., Sunday.

Part of the College of Architecture, Art and Design, MSU鈥檚 art department is the longtime home of the state鈥檚 largest undergraduate studio art program. It offers a bachelor of fine arts degree, with concentrations in graphic design, photography and fine art (ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture).
